Terms of Service

Last updated: 22 August 2026

Operator: ParishLife.ie · Ireland — registered postal address available on request at privacy@parishlife.ie · legal@parishlife.ie · info@parishlife.ie

These terms govern use of ParishLife.ie (the “Service”). By using the Service you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the site. Consumer rights under Irish law that cannot be excluded remain unaffected.

1. What ParishLife is

ParishLife.ie is a public information hub for Catholic parish listings, Mass and related times, and funeral notices in Ireland. It is in public beta: features, listings, and times may change, be incomplete, or be wrong. We are not a parish, diocese, or funeral director. We are not a substitute for the parish office, a priest, or official diocesan publications.

2. Mass times and listings

Schedules are compiled from parish and diocese publications and community contributions. Many listings are not human-verified. A “verified” mark, if shown, means an operator checked a source — it is still not a guarantee. Map pins and TomTom lookup improve location only; they do not create or confirm a Mass time.

Always confirm with the parish before you travel. We are not liable for a missed Mass, journey, or appointment caused by an inaccurate or outdated time. See our Disclaimer.

3. Funeral notices and condolences

Funeral directors warrant that they have authority to publish a notice and that it is accurate and lawful. Families and estate representatives may request removal via the takedown form. Condolences are user content: they are moderated, may be delayed, refused, or removed, and must not harass the living or exploit a death. Sample notices marked as samples are not real funerals.

4. Feedback, corrections, and photos

If you send feedback, a correction, a missing-parish report, or a photo of a church or hall, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use that material to operate and improve the Service (including storing, reviewing, and, if approved, displaying a photo). You warrant that you have the right to submit it and that it does not show identifiable children or other people without permission. Photos stay unpublished until a person approves them. We may refuse or delete any contribution.

5. Accounts (funeral directors)

You must provide accurate business details, keep credentials secret, and use the portal only for genuine funeral notices for families who have instructed you. We may suspend or terminate accounts that post false notices, scrape data, abuse condolences, or break the law. You indemnify us against claims arising from notices or other content you submit, except to the extent caused by our wilful misconduct.

6. Acceptable use

You must not:

  • scrape, bulk-harvest, or republish listings in a way that competes with or overloads the Service
  • bypass security, rate limits, or access controls
  • submit malware, spam, or deceptive content
  • harass, defame, or identify children in user content
  • use the Service to impersonate a parish, priest, or director
  • use automated means except ordinary search indexing of public pages

Parish listings and the compiled database are protected by copyright and, where applicable, database right. Limited quoting with attribution is allowed; wholesale copying is not.

7. User content and illegal material

You remain responsible for content you submit. We host it as an online platform/host. Report alleged illegal content, copyright infringement, or safeguarding issues via privacy request, the takedown form, or legal@parishlife.ie. We may remove content and, where required, report it to authorities. We do not monitor all content in advance.

8. Privacy

Personal data is handled as described in our Privacy Policy and Cookies notice. Email features require consent as described there.

9. Third-party sites and tools

Parish websites, diocesan sites, maps, and optional TomTom results are third-party services. Their terms apply. We are not responsible for their content or availability. Optional AI features, if ever enabled, are assistive only and must not be treated as pastoral, legal, or liturgical advice.

10. Liability

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” during beta. To the fullest extent permitted by Irish law we exclude implied warranties of accuracy, fitness, and uninterrupted access.

We are not liable for loss arising from reliance on Mass times, map pins, parish contact details, or funeral notice content supplied by others; missed liturgies or travel; or downtime, beta defects, or data loss, except where Irish law does not allow exclusion.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any liability that cannot be limited under Irish law. For consumers, statutory rights remain. For business users (including directors), our aggregate liability arising out of the Service is limited to €100 or the amount you paid us in the previous 12 months, whichever is greater.

11. Changes, suspension, governing law

We may change the Service or these terms. The date above is the current version. Continued use after a change means acceptance, except where Irish consumer law requires otherwise. We may suspend the Service for maintenance, abuse, or legal risk. These terms are governed by the laws of Ireland. The Irish courts have exclusive jurisdiction, without prejudice to mandatory consumer venue rules. Northern Ireland users may also have rights under UK law.
